The State of South Carolina is hosting the 37th annual Southeast Regional Institute on Deafness (SERID). SERID provides educational and professional development for individuals who work with consumers who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, and late-deafened.
SERID invites participants from across the Southeast region to attend the conference to enhance their knowledge and skills in rehabilitation counseling, technology, education, employment, health services, interpreting and other discipline areas. We are expecting over 400 participants for this year’s conference. The goal of this event is to promote collaboration between service providers and communities serving consumers who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and late-deafened.
SERID started with a regional meeting in 1971 in which South Carolina partners had a major role. It is an annual training conference that rotates among eight southeastern states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The conference has been strongly supported by consumers, vendors, advocacy groups, service providers, state agencies, and professionals in the field of deafness. SERID, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) corporation and federal identification number is 01-0554310.
The conference involves obtaining speakers, receptions for the participants, a program book, exhibitors, and entertainment. We need financial support in order for this conference to be a success.
