Manual Transmission
Manual Transmission is a performing troupe of students from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind who are deaf or multi-handicapped. There are over 40 students in training with a traveling troupe of 12-15 students who perform state wide.
Manual Transmission performs in sign language and promotes deaf awareness through music, drama and dance. Members range in age from 5-17 and are from every county in South Carolina. They have been performing since 1997. They are directed by Chip Walters and Linda Coon.
DEAFology 101
DEAFology 101 Comedy Show is a highly entertaining lecture on Deaf Culture. Many situations unique to the world of the Deaf are explored and explained on stage by “Professor Glick”. Just about everything from Anthropology to Biology to Physics is covered in this hilarious fast-paced course!
Ken Glickman
Ken Glickman, born profoundly deaf, attended Clarke School for the Deaf in his native state of Massachusetts for 11 years. After graduating from Dartmouth College magna cum laude with High Distinction in Psychology in 1977, he joined IBM as a computer programmer and has taught programming and computer graphics at NTID at RIT (1980-81) and at Gallaudet University (1985-86) under IBM’s Faculty Loan Program. Ken left IBM in 1987 to go into the business world on his own, setting up his shop called DEAFinitely Yours Studio in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he currently lives.
Author of two humor books on Deaf Culture, DEAFinitions (1986) and More DEAFinitions! (1989) and the highly popular “DEAFinitions” and “Play It by Ear” posters, Ken also wears a few other hats. He is, at times, an author, a desktop publisher, a webmaster, a poet, a magician specializing in Close-Up magic (having won 1st place in Leipzig, East Germany in 1990 and 2nd place in Kiev, Ukraine in 1992), a wordsmith and a comedian as “Professor Glick” teaching DEAFology 101, 201 and 301. Ken has recently published his third book, Deaf Proverbs - A Proverbial Professor’s Points to Ponder. He has written his third and fourth volumes of DEAFinitions and hopes to have them published in the near future.

Deidre Dockery
Deidre L. Dockery has been employed by the State of NC for over 22 years. She is currently the State Coordinator for Deaf-Blind Services with the NC Division of Services for the Blind. Her previous experience includes working as a Deaf-Blind Specialist and as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, individuals with Seizure Disorders and Traumatic Brain Injuries. Over the years she has received numerous awards for her service to the deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing communities.
Deidre is currently a graduate student at NC A&T State University where she is researching various aspects of diabetes and its correlation with hearing and vision loss. Deidre is known as the “singing cake lady” or the “queen of karaoke.” Deidre is back at SERID with her machine by popular demand. Go ahead and pick out your favorite song to sign or sing.
